Parish
Nurse (Part-Time)
St.
Philip’s Lutheran Church, a mid-size vibrant congregation in the west-end of
Toronto, is seeking a part-time Parish Nurse to start September 2008.
The ideal candidate will be a Registered Nurse, preferably with a
Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing, holding a current certificate with the College
of Nurses of Ontario. She/he will have completed or is willing to complete a
recognized parish nurse educational program.
With a minimum of 2 years nursing experience, the successful candidate
will be a strong communicator, comfortable in a teaching role. She/he will have an ability to work independently with
minimal supervision. The parish
nurse must be able to integrate and apply the spiritual aspects of holistic health, both personally and professionally.
The
parish nurse:
- Focuses
on health promotion and illness prevention
- Integrates
faith and health, promotes an understanding of the relationship between
faith, lifestyle and health
- Encourages
individuals to become active partners in the management of their personal
health resources,
- Provides
referral resources, advocacy and coordination of services, avoiding
duplication of existing services,
- Is
a health educator identifying health needs and planning educational health
programs, utilizing a variety of resources
- Is
a personal health and faith counselor, offering support and encouragement
during times of celebration and crisis, visiting in homes, hospitals and
nursing homes as well as in the church,
- Encourages
and facilitates congregational participation in health ministry,
coordinating volunteers and support groups.
